Love, Sex and Microcomputers – a novel
Tom Layne joins an elite team of software developers in Chicago to work with Intel’s new microprocessor, the 8-bit 8080. Unfortunately, Tom’s new job takes him away from his wife, Cary, and their young daughter, Stacy, both of whom still live in New Jersey. The plan is for the family to join him in Chicago after a probationary period, but when the trial ends and Tom wins the job, Cary has a change of heart and wants to keep the family in New Jersey.
A marital tug-of-war ensues, with Tom lobbying for his new career in Chicago and Cary insisting on life as it is back home. Tom must make a choice between his job and his family, between a wild nightlife and domestic duty, and ultimately, between ephemeral passion and lasting love. But when the couple finally reconciles, Tom learns that every day is precious—and that we don’t always know what we have until we’ve lost it forever.
